Here comes the ring

By Colette Lopez
Rings are a wonderful symbolic segment of the wedding ceremony— they represent love and commitment—and many couples are opting for unique ways, beyond the classic white satin pillow, for their rings to be carried. For example, in a garden wedding, ring bearers may have the rings concealed in the petals of theme flowers, or in a small leaf-covered box lined with velvet, or on a silver tray covered in rose petals.

THANK HEAVEN FOR LITTLE GIRLS ... AND BOYS ... AND FURRY FRIENDS!

Couples today are not only opting to include precious little ones in their wedding, but their four-legged family members as well. It’s a perfect photo opportunity— the cute factor and innocence of children and animals often brings huge smiles (and sometimes a chuckle) that can break some of the tenseness and nervous energy that can occur at the beginning of a ceremony.

Precious flowers girls get to have all eyes on them as they lightly toss petals from a basket on their arm. An updated twist is to instead have them carry a purse full of feathers with which to dust the aisle.

Young boys, so handsome all dressed up, often have the honor of being ring bearers. A sophisticated method of carrying the rings, which adds meaning, is to hold them in a silver monogrammed box or an heirloom antique piece.

Pets are also making an appearance in their owners’ wedding. Wearing their finest, they may simply walk down the aisle. Some have even been trusted to carry the rings, fastened to their collar.
