Registering for the Honeymoon

By Julie Afflerbaugh
In the tradition of matrimony, family and friends shower the newlyweds with gifts to make their new home and begin their life together. Creating a gift registry is a convenient way to help guests choose a meaningful gift, and avoid having to return duplicate fondue makers later. Since all couples are different, gift registries can reflect the couples’ personality and their individual needs. For some, a meaningful wedding gift is a place setting of china, for another it’s a power drill. Fortunately, it’s possible to register for both.

My husband and I designed a gift registry for our honeymoon because the most meaningful gift for us was an adventure. The Web site www.thehoneymoon.com offers a free service including sample honeymoon destinations and packages and tips on how to create the perfect registry, so together we created a detailed itinerary of our trip to Peru that allowed our family and friends to contribute to the trip of a lifetime. We chose sightseeing tours of Inca ruins, two nights in a jungle lodge and a romantic dinner with live Andean music. Many of our guests chose experiences from the registry that they would like to do themselves, which made each gift very personal.

The site makes it easy to set up a Web page that includes a letter to guests and your chosen itinerary. This is the perfect alternative for couples who love to travel together and want to create the honeymoon of their dreams.
